THE AMBITION SURVEY

What does ambition mean to you? What messages about success and ambition did you receive as a young person? What advice would you give to a young woman entering the workforce today? Here at Women Talk Tech, we’ve been thinking a lot about ambition, and for the past few months we have surveyed our community, hosted panel discussions, recorded podcast episodes, and done countless hours of research on the topic. Our goal was to understand how ambition — what we know of it and the biases it entails — factors into the progression of women in the workforce. Now, we are ready to share our initial findings.

Redefining Ambition

The message that has revealed itself in the results of our survey is that we have to work to redefine ambition.

Three Key Findings:

1. Women are not “Less Ambitious”

2. Men and Women recommend different pathways towards success

3. Ambition is not dying

When we redefine ambition, we create a more inclusive and accessible space for everyone to talk about their goals, motivations, and ambitions — and help one another reach their full potential.
